Champions of the GCash Digital Excellence Awards for 2022

GCash, the most popular mobile wallet app in the Philippines, recently held the 2022 GCash Digital Excellence Awards at the Blue Leaf Events Pavilion in McKinley Hills, Taguig City. These awards recognize pioneering government agencies that have utilized digital financial technology to improve the lives of everyday Filipinos.

"It was during the pandemic that the fundamental things that we normally took for granted were irrevocably altered, and as a result, even the flow of goods and services came dangerously close to being hampered. Marth Sazon, president and chief executive officer of GCash, noted that the local government units and government-owned and controlled corporations that are forward-thinking and capable of easy adaptation are a blessing.

The winners of the awards for this year were selected from a total of seven (7) different categories.

Local government units (LGUs), national government agencies (NGAs), and government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) that promoted the adoption of GCash services among their constituents, from public markets and tricycle operators and drivers associations, were awarded the Excellence in Digital Ecosystem Innovation Award (TODA). The local governments of Cagayan de Oro and San Fernando, Pampanga, as well as the Department of Trade and Industry (MIMAROPA), were recognized with this award.

The Excellence in Digital Public Services Award was bestowed upon government agencies that had shown remarkable expansion in the number of digital transactions that they processed. The City Government of Manila, the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC), and the Social Security System (SSS) were among the recipients of awards.

The Excellence in Digital Public Aid Distribution Award is a commendation given to public institutions that took the initiative to recognize the rapid and efficient distribution of government aid through digital means, particularly in times of crisis. The award was given to the municipal governments of Makati and General Santos, as well as the Social Security System (SSS) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 4A.

The title of "Digital Financial Inclusion Champion" was bestowed upon partners who exerted significant efforts toward the advancement of financial inclusion by creating an atmosphere that was amenable to the utilization of digital financial services. E-Bayad Mo Campaign partners included ALTA Region 3, the Department of Interior Local Government Region 3, and the DTI E-Commerce Office.

Additionally, new categories have been introduced for the GCash Digital Excellence Awards 2022. The government of Quezon City, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Small Business Corporation presented the PangkabuhayanQC Program with the Excellence in Digital Advancement for MSMEs award because the program has played a significant role in the development of the country through the digital empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises.

In the meantime, the city governments of Lapu-Lapu and Baguio, as well as the government-owned and controlled corporation PAG-IBIG, were recognized with the Excellence in Adoption of Government Initiatives award for immediately stepping up to the challenge and adopting current government directives toward digitization.

PAG-IBIG, the recipient of the GOCC award, as well as the city governments of Makati, Quezon City, and Tagbilaran, received the Excellence in Digital Sustainability Award. This award is presented to early adopters who have maintained and even expanded their use of financial technology to transform the community.

Ernest Cu, president and chief executive officer of Globe Telecom, the parent company of GCash, stated, "The vision was financial inclusion." This statement was made with the intention of making the Philippines a society that is more financially inclusive and uses less cash. Taking a look at GCash's numbers, which include 71 million customer accounts and over $6–7 trillion in terms of gross transaction value, I believe those are clear signs of success.
